Rose Bowl

Carter-Ruck is representing a consortium of leading hotel groups in judicial review proceedings against Eastleigh Borough Council.  The consortium, comprising Macdonald Hotels, Meridian Leisure Hotels and Shire Hotels, is challenging a recent decision of Eastleigh Borough Council to finance the construction of a £32m hotel as part of a redevelopment of the Rose Bowl cricket ground, the home of Hampshire CC and a Test venue for the 2011 tour by Sri Lanka.

Sports Network - Joe Calzaghe

The firm represented Sports Network in its high profile contractual dispute against Joe Calzaghe, the world champion professional boxer, who retired undefeated earlier this year.

Sports Network was represented by Nigel Tait, Hanna Basha and Luke Staiano.

House of Lords: Chartbrook - Persimmon

Carter-Ruck represented homebuilders Chartbrook in a House of Lords appeal brought by Persimmon Homes, one of the UK’s largest home building companies, on various issues of rectification and construction of contracts.

Chartbrook are represented by Adam Tudor and Stevie Loughrey.

Brussels Victory for Qatar Airways

The founding shareholders of Qatar Airways have successfully defended a multi-million dollar claim relating to the ownership of the company in the Commercial Court in Brussels.

Cameron Doley advised the successful shareholders.

Settlement for Pensions Claimants

The 45 Claimants in the Stax Scheme litigation settled their claims against Barclays Bank and the Bank of Nova Scotia. The 12-week trial of the claim settled on confidential terms two weeks into the trial.  
The Claimants were represented on Conditional Fee Agreements, coupled with After the Event (ATE) insurance totalling £6.5 million, believed to be a record for a commercial case.

The Carter-Ruck team was led by partners Nigel Tait, Alasdair Pepper and Magnus Boyd.

Carter-Ruck represents State of Qatar in dispute over Islamic Artefacts

Cameron Doley and Isabel Martorell are representing the State of Qatar in an ongoing High Court action concerning the ownership of rare Islamic artefacts.
