Stevie Loughrey

After obtaining a first class degree in law, Stevie went on to work with CNN and later the BBC, where he completed his training as a broadcast journalist. He later returned to law to pursue his interest in media litigation.
Since joining Carter-Ruck in 2006, Stevie has acted for numerous MPs and Peers, actors, musicians and sports stars in the areas in which he specialises, defamation and privacy. Stevie is also very active in the firm's commercial dispute resolution practice, acting for a number of multi-national companies in high value contractual disputes. He is also acting for many small and medium size businesses pursuing financial misselling claims against banks.
Media Litigation
Stevie specialises in all areas of media litigation and reputation management.
He acted for Frank Warren, the boxing promoter, in his successful libel action against the publisher Random House over false allegations published in the autobiography of boxer Ricky Hatton.
He has also acted for Kate and Gerry McCann on a range of media related matters.
Stevie has acted for many prominent members of the Muslim community within the U.K. He helped secure substantial damages for an Assistant Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain after he was libelled by Express Newspapers. He has also advised the charity, Muslim Aid, on various media and regulatory matters.
Stevie has advised various members of the Commons and Lords on pre-publication matters and has pursued numerous libel complaints on behalf of MPs and former MPs.
Stevie has extensive experience in defending celebrity clients against unwarranted press intrusion into their private matters. He has, when necessary, obtained urgent injunctions to prevent newspapers from publishing celebrity clients' private information.
Stevie is a member of the Media Society and the International Bar Association Media Law Committee and writes regularly on issues relating to media law. He has been published in The Lawyer, The Solicitors' Journal, The Press Gazette and The New Law Journal.
Commercial Litigation
Stevie has considerable commercial litigation experience and has built a strong and rapidly expanding practice handling financial misselling claims against banks.
Stevie is currently acting for various high net worth individuals pursuing large claims against Coutts for the misselling of AIG Premier Enhanced Fund bonds.
Stevie is also acting for numerous individuals and small and medium size businesses in claims against the major high street banks in relation to the misselling of interest rate swaps. (Please see his article for further information about these claims.)
