Michelle Riondel

Solicitor

Michelle completed her training at Schillings, where she qualified in 2004. She joined Carter-Ruck in 2006.

Michelle has advised peers, politicians, international businessmen, sportsmen, football clubs and celebrities on protecting their reputations, privacy and brands from unwarranted media scrutiny.

Michelle has considerable experience in Claimant and Defendant media litigation work, and has had the opportunity to work on groundbreaking cases in privacy and libel, including (when with her previous firm) Roman Polanski v the Conde Nast Publications Limited that established the right for a Claimant to give evidence by video-link from outside the jurisdiction.

Michelle regularly obtains favourable libel settlements for her clients, including prompt apologies together with substantial damages.  She recently acted for an MP against a regional newspaper, securing for him a prominent apology with a front-page banner, together with substantial damages.

Michelle has made successful complaints to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) on behalf of a variety of clients for breach of the PCC Code, in particular for publication of inaccurate and misleading information and invasions of privacy.

In addition to libel and privacy, Michelle also advises on intellectual property rights and has successfully filed complaints with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation)  in relation to cyber squatting and domain name disputes.

Michelle is a member of the Media Society.
