Kate read History of Art at Cambridge before obtaining a Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School in London where she also completed the Legal Practice Course.

Having trained at Carter-Ruck, Kate qualified in September 2008 specialising in defamation and other media related litigation including privacy and breach of confidence.  She has represented clients from diverse backgrounds including high-profile individuals and professionals as well as companies keen to protect their corporate reputation.

Kate has helped secure prominent apologies and favourable settlements for a number of clients.  During her training contract Kate worked with partner Adam Tudor to secure apologies and damages for a number of individuals falsely accused of involvement in terrorist plots.  She also assisted Adam Tudor to negotiate a prominent apology and favourable settlement for Seán Doran (the former Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the English National Opera) and his wife Ruby Philogene (the Mezzo-Soprano and former winner of the Kathleen Ferrier award) over allegations which were published in the Daily Telegraph.

Where negotiation has not been constructive Kate has helped pursue matters to trial.  Kate continues to assist Alasdair Pepper in representing Prince Radu of Hohenzollern.  Prince Radu won the first part of his libel action in 2007 against the editor and publisher of Royalty Monthly magazine.  In the trial before Mr Justice Eady, the judge found that the article complained of was not the product of responsible journalism and the judgment has been influential in the field.  Prince Radu of Hohenzollern defeated the Defendants’ appeal of this decision in a unanimous judgment.

Kate is also assisting Alasdair Pepper to represent Mr Taranissi and the ARGC in defamation proceedings against the BBC following the broadcast of their Panorama programme “IVF Undercover”.

Kate also has experience dealing with the wide-ranging challenges that new media bring to the field and has been successful in having articles and photographs removed from a variety of websites and blogs.

Kate is a member of the Media Society and Lawyers for Liberty.
