Magnus qualified in 2001 with Schillings and joined Carter-Ruck in
2004.
Magnus advises a wide variety of potential Claimants from celebrities
to their managers, agents, public relations advisors and in-house communication
directors on all aspects of defamation and privacy.
He has successfully obtained numerous apologies from newspapers for
high-profile individuals and Companies and had PCC complaints upheld
for clients including a controversial adjudication on the protection
of a client's privacy.
Magnus has also injuncted individuals, national newspapers, magazines,
broadcasters and ISP's from publication of confidential data including
photographs and personal details on behalf of a variety of clients from
individuals to large-scale institutions. He helped obtain the first
"John Doe" injunction in this country against an unknown party
for breaches of confidence and copyright and has acted for and against
media institutions in large-scale defamation claims and has particular
experience in the Offer of Amends process in libel litigation.
Magnus provides pre-publication and pre-broadcast advice to publishers
and producers as well as acting for the subjects of unauthorised biographies
in negotiations with authors and publishers.
