Dominic Garner
Solicitor
Dominic graduated from the University of East Anglia with a first class degree in Philosophy. He went on to complete the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, London, before joining Carter-Ruck. Dominic trained with the firm and qualified as a Solicitor in 2011.
Dominic has considerable experience in the firm's key practice area of media litigation, having secured prominent apologies for a variety of clients including national and international businessmen, politicians and the trustees of UK-registered charities. He assisted Nigel Tait and Magnus Boyd in obtaining a front page apology for Tesco plc, in relation to the company's libel complaint against The Guardian. Dominic has been consulted in several pre-publication matters and has successfully negotiated amendment or exclusion of defamatory allegations on behalf of clients, prior to publication.
He has also assisted in obtaining injunctions before the High Court in cases involving the protection of Article 8 rights, and has advised clients in relation to threatened infringements of privacy and confidentiality.
Dominic has also worked extensively in the firm's International Law team and has been involved in several high-profile cases before the European Courts. In 2010, he supported Guy Martin in relation to the successful challenge - brought on behalf of Saudi businessman and philanthropist Yassin Abdullah Kadi - of asset-freezing measures imposed by the European Commission. He is currently providing assistance in relation to the appeal of that decision before the European Court of Justice.
Dominic also has a broad range of experience in commercial litigation, and has acted in high value proceedings involving breach of contract, financial misselling and, more recently, professional negligence.
In addition to working in the firm's practice, Dominic has been a key contributor to Carter-Ruck on Libel and Privacy, writing for the 6th Edition of the firm's book, published in 2011.
