A prescient article by Carter-Ruck associate, Helena Shipman on the issue of regulation of social media organisations.
Following an 11-month study, Dame Frances Cairncross announced the findings of her independent review into the sustainability of high-quality journalism. Her 154-page report included a sharp indictment of the power imbalance between Google and Facebook and media publishers, and made a number of recommendations on how to safeguard the future of journalism.

Richard Burgon MP -v- News Group Newspapers
In a major victory against The Sun newspaper, the MP for Leeds East and Shadow Justice Secretary and Shadow Lord Chancellor Richard Burgon MP was today awarded substantial damages of £30,000 in the High Court for libel. The tabloid is expected to pay his legal costs, and an injunction was issued preventing the false statements from being published again.
Mr Burgon was represented by Nigel Tait and Persephone Bridgman Baker of Carter-Ruck and Adam Speker of 5RB

ARY Network agrees to pay substantial damages to magnate Mian Mohammad Mansha in libel settlement
A Pakistani broadcasting company which went into liquidation last year has agreed to pay Pakistani business magnate Mr Mian Mohammad Mansha substantial damages and legal costs of £275,000 in settlement of his libel claim.

Sasha Wass QC – top criminal QC secures full Court apology from Mail on Sunday
Sasha Wass QC, one of the most highly-respected practitioners at the criminal bar, has today received a High Court apology for a libellous article published by the Mail on Sunday's David Rose on 9 October 2016, which falsely suggested that Ms Wass had (in summary) suppressed evidence of police corruption in order to put an "innocent man in jail".
