Akeela Ahmed MBE, the prominent equalities campaigner and member of the government’s working group on Anti-Muslim hatred, has received a broadcast apology from GB News over an allegation made by a guest on its programme Free Speech Nation. Contrary to the impression that was conveyed by the guest’s comments, Ms Ahmed has made clear (and GB News has now accepted through its apology) that there is no question of her holding the view that it is Islamophobic and racist as a matter of principle to discuss grooming gangs, including issues pertaining to the faith, ethnicity and heritage of those who are involved in such appalling criminal acts.
To the contrary, Ms Ahmed has emphasised that she fully supports a national debate around issues of child sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation, including an open and frank conversation – where it is conducted in good faith – of any trends and associations as to the ethnic and religious background of perpetrators.
Akeela Ahmed MBE was represented by Adam Tudor and Dominic Garner.
