Howra practises in the areas of international law, commercial dispute resolution and media law, with a particular focus on complex, cross-border disputes. Her practice involves representing clients on high-stakes international matters that span multiple jurisdictions and legal systems, often requiring coordination across diverse regulatory and procedural frameworks.

Fluent in Arabic and proficient in Spanish, Howra brings a global and culturally attuned approach to her practice. Her language skills and international experience enable her to work effectively with clients, counsel and stakeholders across jurisdictions, and to navigate cross-cultural legal and commercial issues with confidence.

Howra holds an LLB in Law from Queen Mary University of London and completed her LPC LLM at BPP Law School.

Howra’s international arbitration experience centres on investor-state and commercial disputes, where she has acted on both Claimant and Respondent legal teams. She has been heavily involved in significant ICSID arbitrations, including her contribution to the landmark Al Jazeera Media Network v. Egypt dispute, as well as another complex ICSID matter involving the State of Qatar. Her work in these matters has involved managing cross-jurisdictional issues, public international law questions, and the intersection of domestic and international legal obligations.

Her experience extends across a broad range of arbitral institutions and rules, including ICSID, LCIA and ICC. Howra has worked on disputes involving sovereign states, state-owned entities, and multinational corporations, frequently engaging with issues of jurisdiction, enforcement, and treaty interpretation across multiple legal systems.

Howra has also worked on the preparation of submissions to the ICC for Al Jazeera Media Network relating to the killing of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh and a number of her colleagues in Gaza.

In addition to her international practice, Howra has gained experience in the firm’s well-regarded media law team. This includes exposure to complex commercial litigation and advisory work, further strengthening her ability to approach disputes holistically and with a strong strategic perspective.
